Bug clothing was founded in 2015 by me, Bug :)

I graduated from the University of East London with a degree in pattern cutting and design (and absolutely no sense of business) in 2014, and after a handful of internships I realised I hated the waste and stress and overconsumption of ready to wear brands and London fashion week. I wanted to make things from natural fibres that were comfortable, inclusive and made people feel great. I began taking commissions, making props for photoshoots, wedding dresses, curtains, doing on set and celebrity tailoring alongside starting my brand, and when I fell pregnant in 2019 I began to focus fully on this project so I could make a living in a way that was flexible and served my needs as best as can be

My aim has always been to create garments with intention and that reflect the ideology that we should all admire quality and ethics over quantity and ignorance. The use of natural fibres and the fact that each piece is made by us on a very small scale means each piece will be slightly different from the last. The materials I use are either dead-stock from designer factory waste or from a supplier who stocks linens and cottons from mills who use electricity supplied solely from renewable energy sources and OEKO Tex certified. Although natural fibres will gradually wear, I do hope that you will cherish and mend your garment over the years

All of my garments are produced in South London, either by me (and sometimes Sam) in my Ladywell studio or with the Greenwich based production studio Fabrika who i’ve worked with since 2018, they pay their employees the London Living Wage and have always been supportive of small businesses

My work has to fit and bend around single motherhood, so please be patient with me should I take a little while to get back to your emails and queries. I am always trying to find the balance between my admin work and my creative work and accept that perhaps I might always feel like I’m not juggling both well, but I do so appreciate your orders and support :)
